Bloxxgame
Branding & UI Design for a multi-player game
Challenge
Bloxxgame's initial mission was to make blockchain understandable and accessible for Professor Walter Dettling’s university students. To achieve this goal, Dettling and his cofounder Thomas Breitler tapped into their deep subject matter expertise and created a robust desktop application that helps teach blockchain fundamentals in a fun and interactive way.
Using it regularly in the classroom, students loved it and found it extremely helpful for grasping complex concepts. Seeing the potential as a teaching tool, they decided to expand Bloxxgame to classrooms and block chain students around the world. However, to market and sell Bloxxgame effectively, they recognized it needed to look as good as it functioned. They reached out to me to help them improve their visual identity and user interface so they could effectively bring Bloxxgame to the public.
Outcome
Working closely with the Bloxxgame founders, I revamped their branding, created a consistent design system, updated the UI of their app, and built a simple website for the launch. This comprehensive redesign led to a successful product launch, earning positive feedback from their target audience and peers.
Approach
Guided by a creative brief, I aimed to understand Bloxxgame's mission, target audience, and end users. Additionally, I researched the crypto design landscape to gain understanding of what related applications and tools felt like. Based on these inputs, We determined the Bloxxgame brand and UI should feel approachable, accessible, and fun.
I developed several logo options and concept boards, iterating on their current logo to make it bolder and more impactful. The team gravitated toward the design featuring a block in negative space with lowercase lettering and bright colors, helping Bloxxgame stand out from the typical dark interfaces of most crypto tools.
Applying the design system
Based on this concept, I created a comprehensive design system specifying fonts, colors, and iconography. I then reviewed their current interface, focusing on improving the UI while respecting much of the original UX. Enhancements included more white space, better navigation, a stronger hierarchy, and a bold color scheme. A modular, variable-based design system enabled me to quickly create screens in both light and dark mode.
A new website for launch
After finalizing the interface, I moved on to their website. The new homepage clearly explained their mission, highlighted key features, and linked users to the pricing page. We also added a resources section for ongoing updates and additions.
